Jean Prouve Cradle

Dude. This is phenomenal. A one-of-a-kind cradle designed by Jean Prouvé, the Ray and Charles Eames of France (and then some). It was initially designed in 1936 for the daughter of a friend and collaborator, the architect Marcel Lods.

It's constructed of stainless steel bands--some painted--and has rubber wheels inspired "by the landing gear of small planes of the era," according to the description at Tajan, the Paris auction house selling it on May 17.

Sale 4432 Lot 12: Jean PROUVÉ (1901-1984), Berceau (1936) Est. price: EUR40,000-50,000. [5/25 update: it went unsold.] [tajan.com]
