Ed Koch's Book for Kids Who Can't Play Sports

eddie_koch_book.jpgAlthough he's famous as the face of New York's Welcome Committee for the Republican Convention (slogan: "You don't have to be a Democrat to like New York! [just if you want New York to like you back]") and the author of such books as Giuliani: Nasty Man, you may not know that Ed Koch was once the mayor of Our Fine City.

It was long, long ago, a time when swishy politicians were just "bachelors," not "Gay Americans." Now, in his new book, em>Eddie: Harold's Little Brother, Mayor Koch tells stories from the good old days. Harold, the older, better-looking, more athletic brother, stands up for Eddie the Sports-Inept Sissy, until finally, no one will play with either Koch kid. Then Harold gives his kid brother some valuable advice, "Eddie," he says, "don't try to be something you're not. Find out what you like and what you're good at, and then do that and be proud." Or something like that.

Well, little Eddie may not have gotten the whole message, but it DID lead him into a life of politics. Eddie is co-authored by Koch's sister, Pat Koch Thaler and illustrated by James (nephew of Andy) Warhola, and is being released soon.
